When I was starting my first year of teaching, I knew I wanted a class pet. What type of animal/critter could I get that every student could appreciated and interact with? One with zero fur, no dander and little waste. So, a hairless rat...... doesn't really fit into my family, although they are very smart. We went the reptile road, but which one? A snake that would make my husband scream like a girl? NO! A lizard, one that would not get too big and one that was fairly passive. Enter Larry, the bearded dragon. He was introduced to the class the day we got him and has been a part of the entire high school ever since. He has a tank at school but is never in it, he is usually traveling around the school on someone's shoulder or in their hands. Larry lives at our house and gets to go to school when it is warm enough for him. He even won the ugly sweater contest last Christmas at school! Scored himself a $25 gift card, that buys a lot of bugs....

Ahhh...Larry is adorable. He ranks right up there with the Geiko gecko, and the pig. How amazing that he gets to travel around the school. Students really have a chance to show responsibility.
